THE PCS national executive is urging union members to support a switch to the alternative vote (AV) system for electing the UK parliament.There will be a referendum on the voting system on Thursday 5 May this year – the same day as local elections in most of the country, and as the devolved assembly elections.
Delegates to the PCS annual conference in 2008 passed a resolution rejecting the current first-past-the-post method for choosing MPs and calling for a “more proportional” system “making all votes really count”.
